I’m not typically a tea person, but after hearing about yerba mate on the Huberman Lab Podcast, I decided to give it a try. Initially, I thought preparing yerba mate would be too complicated, based on some how-to guides I found. However, I opted for a non-traditional method using a steeping cup, which turned out to be quite simple. I use two tablespoons of leaves and steep them all day at work, getting 4-5 uses out of each batch, with about 10-12 ounces of water per steep. The steeping times vary, starting at 3-4 minutes for the first steep and increasing to about 10-15 minutes for the last one. The flavor reminds me of a “grassier” green tea. This week, I managed to replace all other caffeine sources, like coffee, with yerba mate and noticed an immediate improvement in my sleep quality
